In a world where self-centeredness and selfishness have resulted in tendencies in most individuals to cling tenaciously to their funds and care less about others around them, it is surprising that one can still find someone who takes pleasure to exhibit touching selflessness and philanthropy with his meager resources.
Elder Sonnie Ifeanyichukwu Nwosu 64, is one such rare gem who has over a period of more than a decade engaged in deeds that have directly touched on the lives of people who have directly or indirectly come in contact with him.
As a Journalist/Artiste, he has used his wealth of experience to mentor so many upcoming artistes through media exposures and motivation to believe in their ability and nurture their talent.
Nowhere is this affirmation more potent in clarity than in the numerous artistes who have passed through his entertainment pages in various newspapers and magazines as well as management of events that highlight their inherent talent.
Perhaps the most remarkable of Elder Sonnie Nwosu,s contributions to humanity towards providing a better life for the less privileged is the establishment of Olive Branch Youth Foundation, which is a charitable outfit dedicated to rendering selfless and unsolicited assistance to the impoverished in the society.
He has plans to construct a youth camp where the youths can come and learn various trades freely and earn a living for themselves instead of idling away on the streets and causing restiveness in the area as urchins and vagabonds.
Elder Sonnie Nwosu is a carbon copy of his late father, Paa David Onuoha Nwosu, a well known philanthropist who knew no borders in giving a helping hand to the less privileged that come in contact with him.
Paa D.O. Nwosu as a staff of UAC in the thirties made his house the first port of call for his kinsmen who come from the village to Onitsha, in search of green pastures until they were able to find their feet and move on.
The unprecedented trend continued up till when he was transferred to Port Harcourt in the fifties as a pioneer staff of Kingsway Stores, owned by UAC where he retired after a meritorious service.
This is the testament that kindled the spirit of human kindness in the young heart of elder Sonnie I. Nwosu, a chip off the old block, to see putting smiles on the faces of those in need of a helping hand even when unsolicited as a way of life.
His discerning spirit often leads him to a life of complacency to the extent of practicing the virtue of ‘others before you’ in place of ‘me before others’ syndrome which is prevalent in this day and age.
He believes that contentment is oftener found in the cottage than in the palace hence he prefers giving to the less privileged as they would most likely appreciate even the little given to them.
A patriotic citizen to the core, he has to his credit two songs “Bless Nigeria” and “Love Nigeria” trending on NTA and FRCN stations in his attempt to make fellow citizens imbibe the spirit of patriotism and love for the nation.
